Meal plans and other options
In support of the residential experience, dining allotments are included with campus housing—no need to choose a plan.
For off-campus students, the commuter dining plan lets graduate students and those living off campus enjoy the benefits of having a student meal plan. See “off-campus dining plan” below for details.
To help you budget, use our dining points calculator to estimate your suggested weekly balance throughout the current semester.
First-year
First-year students enjoy unlimited access to The Met, RISD’s “unlimited access” facility. You may choose to use five cafe credits weekly at any participating dining venue.
Students may also purchase items using the 225 points they receive each semester and/or with a one-time $50 RISD Bucks credit. This risdbucks credit works at all dining venues and vending machines on campus.
The first-year allotment also includes three guest meal credits per semester.
Sophomore
The dining allotment for the second-year residence package includes:
- unlimited access to The Met.
- five cafe credits per week for use at participating campus dining venues.
- 225 dining points per semester.
- three guest meal credits per semester.
Junior, senior and grad student
All junior/senior/grad apartment rooms come with 30 Met swipes, 100 cafe credits, 700 dining points and three guest meal credits per semester. Students in these rooms can also purchase the following add-ons, with rates as listed:
- Add Block A (80 Meal Credits) – $880
- Add Block B (50 Meal Credits) – $550
- Add Block C (30 Meal Credits) – $330
*Add-on block meal swipes are good for both semesters but do not roll over year to year.
** If you eat in The Met often, you may be interested in a full flex allotment. This allotment includes 100 Met swipes, 150 cafe credits, 500 dining points and three guest meal credits per semester for an additional $1,090 per semester. You may request this change to your dining allotment by completing a full flex request form by September 22, 2023.
Off-campus dining plan
This plan is ideal for graduate students and commuters who want convenient access to dining options on campus at a reduced rate. Meals can be used as entry to The Met or as a meal credit applied to food and beverage purchases at Portfolio or Jolly Roger.
You may choose to use dining points on grab-and-go items from the Carr Haus Cafe or for coffee and pastries from Watermark. You can also apply dining points to purchases made in our express or virtual co/op market.
You can choose from one of two commuter dining plans, details as follows:
Plans | Semester cost | Met swipes allotment per semester | Dining points per semester | Cafe credits per semester | Guest meals per semester |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Plan 1 | $1,880 | 50 | 400 | 100 | 3 |
Plan 2 | $1,205 | 25 | 200 | 75 | 3 |
Full flex | $3,240 | 100 | 500 | 150 | 3 |
Meals and points do not roll over from semester to semester.
Dining block add-on
Dining meal blocks allow you to add additional meals to the available allotment associated with housing, or if you are arriving early or staying beyond the semester end date.
Meal block add-on costs are as follows:
- 80-meal block: $880
- 50-meal block: $550
- 30-meal block: $330
Students can use block plans throughout the academic year (July 1–June 30).
RISD Bucks
You may choose to open a prepaid Risd Bucks debit account. Risd Bucks offer a convenient and safe way to purchase products and services both on and off campus, including at all RISD dining venues.
RISD Student Food Pantry
The RISD Student Food Pantry is a 100% donation-supported campus food pantry that serves students experiencing food insecurity. It is located in the 3rd floor break room of 20 Washington Place and is open from 8 am–5 pm.
The cupboard is a self-service resource. There is no need to make an appointment—simply stop by and pick up what you need.
Students can also support the Food Pantry by donating dining points at any RISD Dining venue. Dining will stock shelves with staple items that are in greatest need, such as:
- peanut butter
- tuna
- soups
- rice
- canned vegetables and beans
To donate, just let your cashier know you would like to give points to the cupboard. You may give one, three or five points per donation up to four times per year.
