Josh was born and raised in St. Louis, MO. He attended Murray State University, where he was a football team member and later graduated with a B.S. in Business and an MBA. Murray State was the foundation for his passion for Student Affairs as he started his career as a Student Affairs professional after collegiate sports. Josh is excited about joining RISD and having the opportunity to work with such creative minds. He hopes to enhance the on-campus student experience while maintaining a solid and defined structure. Josh has been rumored to be a pretty good ping pong player and loves supporting and celebrating student accomplishments. Although a St. Louis Cardinals fan, he enjoys the New England culture and the area’s beautiful scenery.

Carly Tryens

Carly is from Pennsylvania by way of New York where she received her degrees in Apparel Design and Illustration from The Fashion Institue of Technology. After a brief stint curating, she taught Maritime studies at Kingsborough College in Brooklyn before moving to New England in 2015 to sail professionally in Newport, RI. Carly is excited to be back in the arts community and enjoys supporting and working with young artists. When not at RISD, Carly enjoys yoga, thrifting, horseback riding and summer days in Newport.

Melynda Heying-Mcmahon

Melynda makes her way to RISD via Milton, MA from Minnesota with a B.A. in English and mass communications with a minor in editing and publishing along with an M.S. in Counseling and Student Affairs – both from Minnesota State University Moorhead (go Dragons!). She is excited to be supporting Residence Life at RISD in a myriad of ways, but is most eager to support students’ wellness and to be immersed in a highly diverse and forward-thinking community. Some of Melynda’s favorite things include forcing affection upon her cat, Sir Elliott McSquigglePants, drinking coffee at inappropriate times to drink coffee, and rating the quality of poutine at restaurants throughout Providence.

The Assistant Director lives on campus with students and serves in the 24/7 emergency on call rotation for on campus students.

Millie holds a B.B.A. in Fashion Merchandising from LIM College in New York City where she spent several years working in the fashion industry. Since returning to her home state of Rhode Island, she’s gained valuable experience transitioning into an array of new career ventures including wind power, international relocation and metal manufacturing. Millie is delighted that her path has led her to RISD, which she has always had a love for. A few of her interests include pottery, home design and learning challenging new recipes.

Community Coordinators:

Community Coordinators are professional live-in staff members who oversee all community development within the building. This includes: supervising Resident Advisors and Advocate for Inclusion in Residence, providing programming and resources to meet student needs, serving in 24/7 emergency on call rotation, addressing any facility or roommate concerns, mediating issues within the community, and providing any support students need while living on campus. Community Coordinators live in the residence halls with students.

Angel Madrigal

Angel was born and raised in Chicago Illinois, and loves the city skyline especially at night with the moon’s light glimmering off the tall skyscrapers. He holds a B.A in Intercultural Studies, with a focus in Latin American Studies, which he received from Elmhurst College. Angel is currently pursuing a Masters of Arts in Higher Education and Leadership, with a focus in Social Justice and Equity Issues. In his free time you can find him either painting, reading a comic book, or binge watching Netflix. He identifies as a night owl, and has been known to fall deep into Youtube videos that either discuss conspiracy theories, or discovering new baking recipes.

Brianna Demorcy

Brianna was born in West Palm Beach, Florida, but spent the majority of her life growing up in Brooklyn, New York. She holds a B.A. in Sociology from Emmanuel College, where she minored in Psychology, and a M.A. in Higher Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. During her free time, you can find Brianna exploring the area while looking for new places to eat and relax. She also loves to listen to music and binge watch netflix and youtube videos.

Becky Cole

Becky was born in New Hampshire and has always found beauty in New England’s nature. Becky went to Temple University in Philadelphia for her bachelors degree in Education and got her Masters in College Student Affairs from Rutgers University. She has worked in Residence Life for 5 years as a paraprofessional and is thrilled to be starting her professional career in Student Affairs at RISD. Becky enjoys supporting students around issues of justice, mental health, and identity development. In her free time Becky enjoys good food with friends, traveling, yoga, activism, hanging with cats, baking, sewing, and a nice cup of coffee.
