Fall Closing + Winter Intent

Residence Halls Close at 12PM (noon) on Thursday, December 15, 2022 and reopen on Monday, January 2, 2023

All residential students must submit their Winter Intent Form by November 30 via the Student Life Portal to indicate their plans for departure and arrival.

The Winter Intent form can be found by logging in to the Student Life Portal, clicking “Housing Forms,” and choosing “Winter Intent Form” from the drop down menu.

The Winter Intent form includes:

  • Confirming your departure date (including late departure requests)
  • Requesting a full Winter Break stay
  • Requesting a Wintersession Early Arrival
  • Confirming your Wintersession plans

Important Information to Consider

  • Dining: Dining will be limited for late stays and early arrivals and will be closed during a portion of winter break. Students requesting to stay for all or a portion of winter break will be responsible for providing their own meals. Students that have special dietary needs during that time should reach out to Maureen Young myoung01@risd.edu prior to December 1 so that arrangements can be coordinated.
  • Testing: Open testing will be available in December for students who will need to provide a COVID test in order to travel. More information will be made available soon.
  • Guests: Guests are prohibited during winter break. Only other students approved to be on campus may visit with winter break residents. Non-RISD visitors are prohibited from December 16 to January 2, with the exception of visitors with the sole purpose of assisting early or late stay students with moving in or out of their room.
  • Studio Access: Students who are approved to stay on campus during Winter Break will not have access to any academic buildings.
  • Staff Access to your Room: Although your room is occupied, RISD Staff may need to gain access to your room. RLO Staff will place an “OCCUPIED” sign on your door indicating that you are approved to stay until a specific date. Staff needing access will knock before entering, but please understand that work may begin as early as 7:30AM and it is necessary that you allow access when requested. This is especially true of the first days of break when RLO and Facilities Staff will be entering rooms to ensure winter conditions are met. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
  • Travel Restrictions: If you are an international student who will be traveling outside the country, ISSA needs to sign your I-20 to verify your travel eligibility. To request an I-20 signature, please complete the I-20 Signature Request Form.
